Our privacy commitment

Prayer Pause is built with privacy at its core. We don't show ads, and we don't ask for an account, your name, or your email. Your faith is between you and Allah, and most of your data stays on your device.

Overview

Prayer Pause is an iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and Android application that helps Muslims manage their screentime around prayer and build better phone habits through app blocking, focus features, and screentime tracking.

Prayer Pause has no accounts and no servers of its own. Your data stays on your device (and in your own iCloud on Apple devices), except for what the third-party services listed below receive.

Information we collect

Location data

We request access to your device's location to:

• Calculate accurate prayer times for your location
• Determine Qibla direction toward Makkah
• Auto-update prayer times when you travel (if "Always" access is granted)

Your location is saved on your device, but it is sent to a prayer-times service. To work out your prayer times, the app sends your latitude and longitude, along with your calculation method settings, to the Aladhan prayer-times service (api.aladhan.com), which is run by a third party. Your Qibla direction is worked out on your device. If you search for a city, or the app looks up your city's name, your device's own location lookup service handles it. That is Apple's on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and Android's system service on Android, so your search text or coordinates go to them. On iPhone, iPad, and Android, the city name you pick during setup is also included in analytics (see below), but your coordinates are not.

User preferences

We store your app settings locally on your device, including prayer calculation method, notification settings, blocking preferences, and language.

Camera and motion (Proof Mode)

If you use Proof Mode, you register one or more prayer spots by taking a photo, and later point your camera at a spot to unlock Salah Focus. The camera only runs when you start a scan or add a spot. Camera images are compared on your device and are not saved or uploaded. What is kept, on your device only, is a small image signature, a small thumbnail of the spot, the name you gave it, and when you last used it. Only a spot's ID syncs through iCloud, never the image. On iPhone and iPad, motion sensor data is read during a scan only to check that your phone is moving, and it is processed on your device.

iCloud sync (iPhone, iPad, and Mac)

On iPhone and iPad, the following data syncs across your devices through Apple's iCloud automatically whenever you are signed in to iCloud. There is no switch for it in the app. On Mac, you can turn iCloud Sync off in Settings, under General. Android has no cloud sync.

• Your profile and app settings (calculation method, notifications, blocking and intervention settings, Quran reading position, and the details you entered during setup), including your saved location: city name, coordinates, and your home location if you set one
• Prayer completion history (up to your most recent 3,000 entries) and your prayer streak
• Pause and Focus usage statistics (the last 30 days)
• Language preference, your install date, and your random analytics identifier (see below)
• Offer and trial status, such as whether a one-time offer has already been shown

iCloud data is encrypted by Apple and only accessible on devices signed into your iCloud account.

Screen Time data

iPhone and iPad: If you enable app blocking features (Salah Focus, Brick Mode, blockers), the app uses Apple's Screen Time frameworks. The apps and websites you choose reach Prayer Pause only as opaque tokens that it cannot read by name, and they stay on your device. Usage totals for the apps you block are measured by Apple's frameworks on your device and used there to draw your report and Sabr Score. They are never sent off your device.

Mac: Apple's Screen Time frameworks are not available on Mac. Salah Focus checks which app is in front and covers your screen with its prayer page. This happens on your Mac, and the name of the app in front never leaves it.

Android: Blocking uses an accessibility service. Prayer Pause uses it only to learn which app has come to the front. It cannot read what is on your screen, and nothing it sees leaves your device. Blocking also needs the "display over other apps" permission, and can use Usage access as a backup way to tell which app is in front.

Analytics data

We use Mixpanel, a privacy-respecting analytics service, to understand how people use Prayer Pause. This helps us identify which features are most valuable, where people get stuck, and how to make the app better.

On iPhone, iPad, and Mac, analytics run for everyone from the first launch, and there is currently no switch to turn them off in the app. On Android, analytics are on by default, and you can turn them off with the "Share Anonymous Analytics" switch in Settings.

What Mixpanel collects:

• Usage events (for example, which features you use and how often, your steps through setup and the subscription screen, which prayer you marked as prayed, and your streak count)
• Subscription events (a trial started, converted, or expired, a subscription cancelled, and the plan type)
• Counts about blocking, such as how many apps you block (never which apps)
• On iPhone, iPad, and Android, your answers during setup: your age, your gender, the daily screen time you estimate, your prayer goals and habits, and the city name you picked (not your coordinates)
• General device information (device model, OS version, app version, language), and an approximate region that Mixpanel works out from your IP address
• A random identifier created by the app. On iPhone, iPad, and Mac it is kept in your iCloud so it stays the same across your devices. It is not your Apple ID, and it is not tied to your name or email

What Mixpanel does NOT collect:

• Your name, email, or any personal contact information
• Your coordinates (the city name above is the only location detail)
• Content you read (Quran ayahs, hadith, etc.)
• Which apps you block, or how much screen time you actually have (only the estimate you give during setup)

Analytics data is used by us to improve the app and to understand where installs come from. You can learn more about Mixpanel's privacy practices at mixpanel.com/legal/privacy-policy.

Ad attribution (Meta)

The iPhone, iPad, and Android apps include the Meta (Facebook) SDK. It runs for everyone, not only people who arrived through an ad. We use it to attribute installs back to our Facebook and Instagram campaigns so we can measure whether our ads work. The Mac app does not include it, and it is not a tracker on this website.

What Meta receives:

• Standard app events: app open, onboarding completed, free trial started, subscription purchased, trial converted to paid, plus the SDK's own automatic events (such as app activations and sessions) and basic device and OS information
• For trial and purchase events: the plan type (for example weekly or annual), where in the app it started (for example during setup or from an offer), and the amount in your local currency (the plan's price, or the discounted price if you use an offer), used for value-based optimization
• Your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) only if you choose "Allow" on Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. Without it, Meta still receives the events above, along with anonymous SKAdNetwork postbacks from Apple. On Android, the advertising ID follows the "Share Anonymous Analytics" switch in Settings

What Meta does NOT receive:

• Your name, email, or any contact information
• Your location
• Your prayer habits, prayer times, or streak data
• Content you read (Quran ayahs, hadith, etc.)
• Which apps you block or how much screen time you have

Declining the App Tracking Transparency prompt, or turning off "Allow Apps to Request to Track" in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, stops Meta from receiving your advertising identifier. You can change this anytime from the same settings. It does not stop the events above, and there is currently no separate switch in the app to turn the Meta SDK off. On Android, turn off "Share Anonymous Analytics" in Settings to stop the advertising ID being used. Meta's privacy practices are described at facebook.com/about/privacy.

Purchase information

Subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and by Google through Google Play on Android. We do not collect or store payment information, and we run no subscription server: the app checks your purchase with Apple or Google on your device.

Android app

Everything above applies to Android unless it says otherwise. This section brings together what is specific to the Android app.

• Accessibility service. App blocking uses Android's AccessibilityService. Prayer Pause uses it only to learn which app has come to the front, so it can show your prayer pause when you open a blocked app during a prayer window, a blocking rule, or a Focus session you start. It cannot retrieve window content: it never reads what is on your screen, never collects what you see, and never acts on your behalf. Nothing from this service leaves your device. You can turn it off at any time in Android Settings, under Accessibility.
• Usage access. With your permission, the app reads Android's usage statistics on your device to measure the time spent in the apps you block. This powers your screen time insights and Daily Limit, and is a backup way to tell which app is in front. These numbers stay on your device.
• Display over other apps. This permission lets the prayer pause appear on top of a blocked app. It shows nothing to anyone but you.
• Camera (Proof Mode). The camera runs only while you add or scan a prayer spot. Images are compared on your device and are never saved or uploaded. What is kept, on your device only, is a small image signature, a small thumbnail, the name you gave the spot, and when you last used it.
• Location. To work out your prayer times, the app sends your latitude and longitude, with your calculation settings, to the Aladhan prayer-times service (api.aladhan.com). To show your city's name, or to find a city you search for, it uses Android's system Geocoder, which on most phones is provided by Google, so your coordinates or search text go to that service.
• Analytics (Mixpanel). On by default. Turn off "Share Anonymous Analytics" in the app's Settings to stop sending analytics. What is collected is listed under Analytics data above.
• Meta app events and advertising ID. The Meta SDK sends app installs and opens, onboarding completed, trial started, and purchase events for everyone, to measure our ads. Your Android advertising ID is shared with Meta only while "Share Anonymous Analytics" is on. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings.
• Purchases. Subscriptions, and in some countries a one-month plan you pay for once, are handled by Google Play Billing. We never see your payment details. The app checks your purchase with Google Play on your device.
• No cloud sync. Android keeps your data on the device only. Uninstalling the app, or using "Reset App Data" in the app's Settings, removes it.

Data collection summary

* iCloud sync is automatic on iPhone and iPad, and can be turned off in the Mac app's settings. Android has no cloud sync. iCloud data is encrypted by Apple and only accessible on devices signed into your iCloud account.

** Analytics data is tied to a random ID, not to your name, email, or account. It is used by us to improve the app. On iPhone, iPad, and Mac there is currently no switch in the app to turn it off. On Android, use "Share Anonymous Analytics" in Settings.

*** Ad attribution events are sent to Meta only to measure ad performance. The IDFA is sent only if you grant App Tracking Transparency permission, while the events are sent either way. We send no name, email, location, or prayer data.

What we don't do

• No ads shown. Prayer Pause never shows you ads. We advertise the app on Facebook and Instagram, and use Meta's SDK only to measure that, as described above.
• No advertising ID if you say no. We read your device's advertising identifier only if you allow it on Apple's tracking prompt (iPhone and iPad). On Android it follows the "Share Anonymous Analytics" switch in Settings.
• No personal profiling. Analytics are tied to a random ID, never to your name, email, or account. We look for patterns, not people.

Third-party services

We use the following services:

• Apple Frameworks (StoreKit, Family Controls, Core Location including city search, ActivityKit, iCloud, App Tracking Transparency, SKAdNetwork): All data processed through these services is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
• Google Play (Android billing): Purchases on Android are handled by Google and governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
• Aladhan (prayer times): A public prayer-times service run by a third party that we do not operate. It receives your latitude and longitude and your calculation settings each time the app fetches prayer times.
• Mixpanel (analytics): Usage analytics tied to a random ID, to improve the app. Governed by Mixpanel's Privacy Policy. We send Mixpanel no name, email, or contact details.
• Meta (Facebook) SDK (ad attribution, iPhone, iPad, and Android): Standard app events (install, app open, onboarding, trial, purchase) used to measure Facebook and Instagram ad performance. Governed by Meta's Privacy Policy. The IDFA is only shared if you grant App Tracking Transparency permission, and on Android the advertising ID is shared only while "Share Anonymous Analytics" is on; the events are sent either way.

Like any online service, Aladhan, Mixpanel, and Meta can see your device's IP address when the app contacts them.

Your rights

• Change or revoke location and camera permissions anytime in your device's Settings
• Manage notification preferences in Settings
• Revoke Screen Time access in iOS Settings (on Android, accessibility and display-over-other-apps access in Android Settings)
• Allow or deny ad tracking via iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking
• On Android, turn "Share Anonymous Analytics" on or off in the app's Settings
• On Mac, turn iCloud Sync off in the app's Settings, under General
• Delete the data on your device by uninstalling the app, or on Android by using "Reset App Data" in Settings
• Contact us about your analytics data (see Data deletion below)
• Manage subscriptions through the App Store or Google Play

Data deletion

Prayer Pause does not require an account, so most of your data stays on your device. Here is how to remove it.

Delete the data on your device

Uninstalling the app removes the prayers, streaks, preferences, and other settings stored on the device. On Android you can instead open Settings in the app and choose "Reset App Data". On iPhone, iPad, and Mac there is no reset button in the app, and your synced copy stays in your iCloud until you remove it from your device's iCloud settings. A reinstall on the same Apple ID can restore it.

Analytics data

The only information we hold away from your device is product analytics tied to a random identifier, with no name, email, or account attached. If you have a question about it or would like it removed, email prayerpauseapp@gmail.com and we will do our best to help. Because the identifier is not linked to your name or email, we may not always be able to tell which data is yours; on iPhone and iPad, writing to us from Settings, under "Troubleshoot with Developer", includes it.

Data that other services hold under their own policies is outside our control: Meta (ad attribution events), Aladhan (prayer-time requests), and any records a payment provider such as Apple or Google is required to keep for their own receipts.

Children's privacy

Prayer Pause is rated 4+ on the App Store and has no accounts. The age question in setup starts at 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. We never ask for a name, email, or contact details. Analytics are tied to a random ID, and the third-party services described above receive the data listed in this policy.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. We will update the "Last updated" date and will give notice through the app where appropriate.
